Winter Harbor

The Mystic Seaport is an excellent location to photograph old sailing vessels but there are many other locations along the river to catch a view of a sail at anchor. During the winter the water is usually calmer early in the day which is great for reflections. One of the best viewing spots is on the grounds of the Mystic Art Association which is nearer to the mouth of the river. This cold New Years Eve day provided a nice blend of dark winter clouds with the warming of the sun and a slight current to the river which feathered the masts in the reflection giving a more painterly look to the photograph.
